Across America by Bicycle
Alice and Bobbi's Summer on Wheels
by Alice Honeywell and Bobbi Montgomery
Terrace Books (University of Wisconsin Press)
[Kindle eBook]
A delightful story of two older women and their adventures cycling across the USA. The book was very nicely written and quite informative, though more technical and geographical detail would have been nice.
The Kindle eBook was shockingly made and really let the side down.
This was a good book and well worth a read for any tour cyclist.

Adventure and Cycling Touring
5000K on a bike to Gibraltar
The Story of an Adventurous Spirit and Life on the Road
Erik CJ Olsson.
Self Published (I think)
[Kindle Book]
A fun book for people who love reading about cycle touring. This self-focused read taught me a lot about what not to do and what happens when you unnecessarly put yourself in danger.

Africa Solo
Mark Beautmont
Penguin Random House
[Kindle Book]
Another great Mark book. Tales from the highways as Mark rides from Cairo to Capetown. I wasn’t ready for the speed of this record breaking ride, so it took me awhile to adapt from Mark’s more wistful previous books. However once I learned to enjoy it for what it was I really got into it.

Bike rides with pilgrims and merchants
Anne Mustoe
[second-hand paperback]
A wonderfully simple easy-reading lovely book. Anne writes separately about three journeys, two across Europe and one across the USA. Each story is charming, funny and informative. An inspirational good read. I suggest you start the book by reading the last page first, the last page talks about her kit or more specifically her bike. This is important information for me.

Fantastic page turning cycling book. Adventure packed, gobsmacking and exciting. I approached the book knowing that it was not going to be about people and places, but wasn’t quite ready for how Mark and ‘record’ focused it was. I have read all of Mark’s books, learnt heaps in this one and eagerly wait for another.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is full of ego and whingeing, but a good read. I learnt a lot about the intricacies and politics of cycle teams.
It was a good read.

Biking Across America:
My Coast-To-Coast Adventure and the People I Met Along the Way
Paul V. Stutzman
Revell
[Kindle eBook]
A surprisingly good cycling book. Paul doesn't really speak that much about tour-cycling. He stayed in hotels, ate in restaurants, his bike seemingly didn't break down and the rain appears not to fall on him. He spoke a lot about people, a lot about God and well a lot about God.
The book was very well written with good, simple and clean English. The story was also extremely well edited and presented. Well done Vicki Crumpton and Revell Books.
It was a good read and I would recommend it.

It's Not About the Bike
My Journey Back to Life
Lance Armstrong
[second-hand paperback]
Umm, a very interesting book with some oddly placed big words in it. Lance gives a wonderful insight into the life of a cancer patient and an interesting look at professional cycling. Recent events would suggest that quite a lot of the content of his book is based on lies, don't let this stop you from reading it, it is still a good book.

New Zealand Road Cyclist Magazine
(issue 31)
John McKenzie (editor)
Chris Gaskell (publisher)

Umm I enjoyed this learnt some stuff. I particularly enjoyed reading about people and their cycling and somewhat laboured through the gear reviews. Being a tour cyclist I was searching for something about mapping or pannier packing; this is clearly the wrong magazine for such information.

This was an excellent, educational and insightful trans-America travel cycle book. Stan's style of writing kept me turning those pages. His imagery and detail of life on the road was so real that I could feel the wind and sun on my face.

Seven Deadly Sins
My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong
David Walsh
Simon & Schuster
I really enjoyed reading this book, it had lots of meaty facts to chew on and was a rather shocking insight into professional cycling.
The proofreading in this Amazon USA purchased ebook is absolutely shocking and seriously detracts from the reading experience. I wrote to 'Simon & Schuster' and asked for a proofread version, they did not reply. I tweeted David Walsh and again no reply.
The content was good, but because of the proofreading this book gets a two out of five.

Squeaky Wheels
The non-friction adventure from sea to shining sea
Scott Hippe
2012 Scott Hippe
[kindle eBook]
A very enjoyable and slightly entertaining account of a young man's American transcontinental bicycling journey. Unfortunately Scott does not like to talk about the technical side of cycling, if he had included more information about his route and what gear worked or didn't work this would have been a brilliant book. Other than being single and incompetent with women, he mostly speaks of how to find free accommodation, this alone was worth the read.

The Invisible Mile
David Coventry
Victoria University Press
[eBook]
This is a wild and beautiful fictionalised account of a New Zealand and Australian team that rode the 1928 Tour de France. At times the prose are quite stunning and left pictures that I struggled to dislodge from my thinking. There are a lot of drugs, anger and grief in the story and this often left me feeling lost and tripping. A well written book, the end is maybe a little disappointing, but well worth the read.

The Man Who Cycled The Americas
Mark Beaumont
[borrowed paperback]
Oh I have learnt so much and been so inspired by Mark Beaumont's 'The Man Who Cycled The World' and his latest book 'The Man Who Cycled The Americas'. They are both funny, gruelling and fantastic reads that offer great insights into tour and endurance cycling. 'The Man Who Cycled The Americas' also includes his climbing the two tallest American mountains.
This book is well worth its read and will appeal to cyclists and non cyclists alike. Mark, please give us a detailed appendix about your kit.

The Northern Tier
by Lief Carlsen
self-published
[kindle eBook]
[spoiler alert] I liked this book and found it quite educational. The eBook version was not well prepared, however it was well written.
The author had an interesting way of writing about his wife. Though this was often irritating, it often led him to be quite candid when talking about his wife's cycle underwear and saddle-saw. This was not something that I had read before and was helpful preparation for our upcoming cycling trip.
I also learnt a lot about camping in town limits, though sadly halfway across they sent their tent home and opted for motels. This was slightly rescued near the end when they met other camping cyclist.

The Road Headed West
Leon McCarron
Summersdale Publishers Ltd
[Kindle eBook]
This is a book that either explains how the Irish like to cycle or everything that could go wrong and shouldn't be attempted when cycling across North America.
This book taught me valuable things like 'don't get into cars with drunk people' or 'do not attempt cycling on the interstate'. Leon either wrote a manual on how not to long-distance cycle or set an example of chucking caution to the wind and just getting out there having some fun and doing it.
This was a quick, easy, delightful and bizarrely educational read.
